" 'Most' is just the word I would use as well..." Ace shrugged, resting back against the wall again, obviously not going to argue his point.

Magus's eye twitched. "You act as if I had asked you all to come.. I planned on passing through this device and exploring the different worlds in search of someone... If you wish to come along as well it's your own liability, and I wont go out of my way to make sure you're safe. I am not responsible for you should you agree to join me, is that understood?" Magus asked, turning his attention to not only Ace, but the rest of the assembly. This was not going to be ruined because of them. "Obviously, I cannot stop all of you from doing whatever comes to mind without resorting to killing some of you.." Magus remarked as he turned back to the gate.
Suddenly the gate turned from the blue misty swirl to a solid circle, the blue and indigo insides waved back and forth like waves on the sea. "The gate has connected to the other side now... A new world awaits."

At that moment, the recon probe from Phoenix slammed into the ground outside the building, retro rockets slowing it just before impact, though there was still a substantial crater and the grass instantly caught fire. Sensors in the probe started scanning and transmitting back to the mothership immediately, reporting its findings.

Ace's expression seemed to be one usually accompanied with the rolling of eyes. He was sure this Magus has mentioned the term 'we' during his explanations of travel. Ace regained his feet, staggering a bit as the ground shook with the impact momentarily. That grin on his face was back as he spoke to himself.
"Oh? Looks like something else interesting has happened.."

Dark's expression had become distant for the last couple minutes, as if she were trying to make an image clearer that only she saw. She obviously was trying to figure something out. Suddenly, she winced and held her head. "Is there a window nearby?" She asked Magus, not really there still.
Shivelle had looked at Magus slightly hurt, but remained by his side. Was he going to go look for that one he mentioned to her years before?

SIAM sifted through the data that the drone was relaying back to it. "The planet appears to be settled by a pre-FTL civilization." For emphasis, SIAM put an image of the building that the probe had landed next to. "The rift appears to be in one of the lower levels of the structure."
Anton pondered the image the drone was transmitting. "Well, the rift must be generated from the other side because I don't see anything capable of cutting across the multiverse on the drone's sensors. We'll have to destroy the rift, hopefully no ships of the Law have detected this event. We also need to recover or destroy the drone before too many of the locals encounter it. Are there any life signatures around?" All recon drones were fitted with a low-yield nuclear charge in the event of detection by the enemy.. ordinarily it was supposed to be used as a weapon but in this case it'd make a fine scuttling charge for the drone and the rift.
SIAM didn't respond immediately. "It appears that the life detection equipment was damaged in the crash. I can not tell you if there is any sentient life in the immediate vicinity. The presence of multiple buildings does indicate a fairly significant population. I am also detecting a fairly large power source near the site of the rift, nearly 4 kilowatts."
Anton thought carefully. If the rift was discovered by the Law, it was likely that the entire population of the plane would be destroyed. The sensors on Phoenix were close enough to detect a population of about half a million. Did the deaths of a few outweigh saving an entire race? Of course. Still, perhaps he could go down himself and disable the rift and recover the drone. And a 4 kW energy source? this merited closer inspection.
"How much longer until we arrive?"
"About 2 hours to orbital insertion."

Kimmy looked around the room and then subtly exited the room while everyone was looking at Dark. She wanted to see what was happening outside. When she did make it out she noted that interestingly enough the grass was on fire. She also noticed a very large crater in the ground. Casting her finally perfected water in boots spell, Kimmy walked through the fire splashing it as she went. She slid down into the crater and had a look at this strange thing in the bottom. Unfortunately she was all muddy because as far as she knew there was no way to turn off the water in boots spell.

Dark did not wait for an answer. When she noticed Kimmy leaving, she swiftly followed her. She had felt a disturbance in her connection with the Pale'nea, which had been returned to its rightful place years ago. Something had penetrated its protective shield... something from above. What on earth could that be?

Anton couldn't believe his eyes. Humans? Here? On some Godforsaken planet with no civilization and such a tiny population?
"SIAM, is she human? She certainly looks human..."
SIAM used the drone's infrared and ultrasonic scanners to do a complete sweep of the girl. "Confirmed, subject is human. There is a strange electromagnetic field emenating form her, there is no source that I can see. Some sort of teleportation device was also used to fill her boots with water as she crossed the burning grass."
Creideiki blinked. "But there's no power source nearby to support that level of technology!"
Anton turned his eyes back to the screen. "Initiate audio link up, I want to hear what's going on.
The recon drone deployed a small microphone out of either pole of the globe that made up the drone's main body. The aft end of the probe was buried in the earth, which was just as well as it was mildly radioactive.

Raiku's head jerked to one side, wincing as if he was shaken internally by the disturbance inside. "That's...odd." He said, moving his hood to a more comfortable position. Smoke rose from his feet, and he poofed away.
Reappearing inside the crater, he kept one hand on the hilt of his blade. "What...are you?" He asked the drone, unaware of his potential enemies link to things much more dangerous.

Kimmy jumped slightly when the metallic thing started to do something. She leaned in to peer at it and curiously reached out and tapped the thing. As she did so Raiku appeared behind her and asked the thing what, no who is was. To say the least it scared the living daylights out of her. She jumped into the air and shrieked. "Don't do that! You scared me. Why are you talking to it anyway. It doesn't have a mouth. How can it talk back?"

Dark appeared at the edge of the crater as well, her cerulean eyes narrowed. What was this? There was something gleaming in the sunlight. It was blindingly silver; it looked like the material used to create swords and armour. "Raiku, Kimmy, be careful. That thing infultrated the Pale'nea's energy shield. It must be powerful."

Rai turned his head, tossing a nod of approval toward Dark. Yet he reminded her telepathically, "It would be better for someone to find out what it is before it causes more damage, do you not think? Rather than wait and see."
"Kimmy, if you please...Let us retreat slightly. I don't want this 'thing' to attack." His eyes scanned what they could. It was metal, that he knew. But where did it come from? He looked up to the sky. After a moment of concentration, his eyes widened in disbelief.

Magus peered at the sudden disturbance, and then at the gate. With a swift wave of his arm the portal closed again, as if nothing had happened at all with the machine. It slowly whirred to a halt, and the blue lightning arcing around ceased. There was a disturbance outside his home, he couldn't leave it unguarded and his passageway potentially sabotaged while he was away, or they'd have no way back. He peered at the others in the Room, especially Shivelle. "There's apparantly a guest outside.. Perhaps I should greet him..." he remarked in a rather curt tone. Whatever it was it was interrupting at an inconvenient time. He looked around the room for a moment, then began casting a few incantations, taking baout thirty seconds to do so. Mostly various protection spells, such as protection from teleportation, alarm, and most importantly, a ward over the device so that no one touches it while he was investigating the disturbance. Once that was done, he moved out the doorway, the black-iron shaft and wickedly curved blade of his scythe appearing in his hand from out of no where with a simple flick of his wrist.

The strangers were speaking common! There was an odd accent about it, a slightly litled and crisp feel to it, but common none the less. "Such strange dress.. and what antique weapons!"
SIAM reported that the rift from the other time line had collapsed. The powersource had also faded to nothing.
"SIAM, any sign of this teleportation equipment these folks keep using?"
"Negative.. I am unable to find sufficient power anywhere for the necessary technology. However, the new comers are radiating a significant amount of EM radiation, the drone's sensor effectiveness has been slightly degraded."
Creideiki looked at the readings. "Could the source of the radiation be some sort of biotechnological implant?"
"Unknown. It matches nothing in the ship's databanks."
The wayward acting captain of the U.N.N.S. Phoenix closed his eyes. "Activate audio link. Let's see if they want to talk."
The comm chirruped as it was activated. Creideiki began to speak in response. The two-way speaker/microphones projected his voice with surprising clarity. "Don't worry, the probe can't harm you." Well, not technically true, that nuke could do a lot of damage, and if they spent too much time near the probe they might start to develop some radiation sickness.. but unless they camped out right next to it for a week, they should be alright. "What do you call yourselves?"
As he spoke, SIAM fired the main engines again, decelerating Phoenix into a path that would lead into a geosynchronous orbit over the drone. To those on the ground, it looked as though a dim sun had ignited for a few seconds in the southern sky.
"Orbital insertion in 1 hour 30 minutes." SIAM reported.
