The moment he felt the beam loose from his grip and move behind him, he was moving forward, sprinting over burning rubble to reach the stairs. Taking large, leaping strides, he wove his way up the burning stairs, wrapping an elbow to cover his nose and mouth to ward against the smoke as it grew thicker. Calling out from his sleeve, coughing in spurts, he tried vainly to find his way through the black smoke and red fire that consumed the top of the stairs.
"Perr- *Cough* Perrin! *CoughCough* Are you-- *Cough* Okay?! Perrin!!"
His open hand found the door at the top of the stairs and recoiled, burned. The door was almost completely covered in flames. Throwing his shoulder against the door, he tried to break his way through, still shielding himself against the smoke. He simply bounced back, the cloth on his shoulder singed and smoking. He stumbled backwards and turned to hit the wall. He continued to cough into his sleeve, rearing up breath for another attempt.

"Of course I'm fine you idiot!" The halfling's voice drifted from down the hall. She poked her head out from a door down the hall. "I'm not so silly as to get caught in a fire." Her words were slightly muffled by the cloth over her nose and mouth but they were mostly understandable. "But this happens to be a prime time to pick up some cash and valuables. Dont worry I know when to get out. I've pulled a stunt like this before, usually I'm the one who sets the fire though..." She shrugged and geve him a little push. "And you are wasting my valuable time. So either get out or keep up." With that she dissapeared into another room and started tearing the place apart.

Fayt couldn't see much through the flames and smoke, but he had heard the Halfling's voice, and she sounded well enough. It was time to be done with this place. Fayt made his way back down the stairs, nearly stumbling half the time. His thoughts were hazy because of the smoke inhalation, and his movements were becoming rapidly less coordinated. He stumbled back into the main room and soon found Aurochs still recovering from his feat of superhuman strength with the beam. Calling out to him in a voice he barely recognized as his own, he compelled the big man that it was time to leave.
Fayt took a look at the main door and immediately assessed that a window would be better than another door on fire. But, he very much doubted that the big man would be able to jump through any of the windows that this small establishment had.
Fayt simply looked at the big man and pointed at the door with his free hand, his other still occupied as a veil to the smoke.

Aurochs nodded, lifting his head and moved toward the door. Locked. Apparantly someone had wanted them to burn or suffocate without means of exit... This was a stupid idea. He hefted his greathammer and swung it like a baseball bat at the door, the wooden frame cracking beneath the force. Two more swings and nothing but the hinges stood in his way. Smoke billowed out with him as he ducked through the doorway and took a fresh breath of air. He peered around for any signs of the arsonist, but didn't see anything. Then again, with all the smoke stinging the big man's eyes, and obscuring the air around, it was hard to see anything. It wasn't even quite sunup yet. If we stay around much longer we'll be thought to have started the fire. Law was a joke in this place, but they'd jump on any rationalization to kill people for whatever reason. Jackals. "Glad I stayed on the ground floor..."

Fayt came out close behind the big man, rolling onto the ground and coughing smoke from his lungs despite his best efforts. When he could manage, he offered the big man a weak grin. "I'm glad too." His laugh was forced.
Fayt raised his eyes, scanning the immediate area. The sun wasn't yet over the horizon, but the dim light that spoke of its coming already outlined against the blazing ruins of the inn behind them.
"We won't be able to stay long. Do you know what happened to the other woman? What was her name?" Fayt regained his feet and his composure, not one to show weakness for long. He absently held the end of his spear over one shoulder, ready to draw.

The sound of breaking glass was heard from over head and a large candle stick dropped on the ground quickly followed by glass. Perin poked her head out of the indow and looked down at the wall. The flames had only just reached it but were quickly comsuming the dry wood. Letting out a curse she swung herself out the window and triggered her boot daggers to spring out. They did and stuck into the wall as planned. The halfling made her way down as quickly as she could.

"It didn't do you much good.... She didn't sleep in here. She left and said she'd meet us in the morning," Aurochs replied, before Perin made her most unorthodox, yet oddly stare-worthy escape. He chuckled. She WAS resourceful.

"We won't have much time to wait for her. I have a strong feeling that whoever is responsible for this didn't intend to let us be off with only a few singes and lost sleep..." He eyes Perrin oddly as she made her way down. She was nimble, among other things. It wouldn't dawn on many people how much physical strength it would take to manage what she was doing. Then again, with her diminutive size, it would be considerable easier than if Fayt himself tried it.

The halfling unstuck her boots and walked away from the building as she dusten herself off. "Told you." She said simply as she pulled down her mask. "I wish I had a few explosives to lay down in there though. Then we would really have a show." She watched as some guards sounded the alarms. "They sure are fast about getting things known around here aren't they?" Sarcasm was very apparent in her voice. "The buildin is almost completely consumed. How many got out? I found a few who were too late to rise in there."

"It should've been mostly deserted besides us and and the local rats and vagabonds. We're still short one friend, but Aurochs says she didn't grace us with her company last night, so she should be around soon. And that's just where we shouldn't. Let's be off before someone decides to blame us for this."

The sound of slow applause could be heard faintly over the roar of the fire. From the haze, Adeline appeared. She looked absolutely unruffled. There was a smirk playing about her tight lips. She ceased her clapping and let her arms fall to her sides. "Impressive. You all came out alive. I must say I expected less. This comes as a great comfort to me. I would have hated to wait around for another band of creatures to get together here." She turned to Perin. "That was quite the interesting escape route."

Fayt was less interested in where the woman had been, than what she had said. By implying that any band of creatures would be as suitable as they, then she had her own agenda for joining this group. Not that he expected less from any of them, but suspecting and having confirmation were totally different.
"Let us be off. We'll head South to pass the edge of town and this cursed Jagt, then we'll take a path West, following the Caemlyn road for several days, then we'll veer off to cross the countryside in order to avoid unwanted attention. If you lost any supplies tonight, there is a small town several days off, we can restock there."
He didn't even have to ask if any of them weren't in any shape to start walking, he just began moving south, passing Adeline without so much as an acknowledgement that she'd rejoined them. If she chose to disassociate herself from them unless it suited her, then he would act accordingly.

Adeline simply grinned to herself at Fayt's brush off. Good. They're an interesting bunch, and they listen. No problem. "Cursed, is it? Be careful what you say," she muttered to herself, amused as she walked after him, simply following. The others would come along. And she would not speak unless she was spoken to anyway.

"A portion of land devoid of elemental life due to the arrogance and ignorance of mankind. What else can you call it but Light Forsaken and Cursed?" It was more of a barely audible murmur to himself, probably said from his own thoughts.

Interesting viewpoint. Every little thing they said, every little move they made, told Adeline something new about each one. This Fayt could take some getting used to. Too bad he does not know as much as he thinks he does about the workings of this place.
