He'd have to ask one day how women could do that. So completely end a conversation and dismiss you like nothing more than a hired servant, and expect you to act accordingly. He simply shook his head, and felt his way back to the commonroom with the wooden butt of his spear. He walked back to his spot by the hearth, replaced his spear on the wall, and took his seat once more.
That halfling was dangerous, no matter how steel her talk or smooth her skin. This venture was more than he had bargained for. Everything was kind of thrust on him in a moment. He was a far cry from the solitude he'd enjoyed these past years, but, no matter how much it irked him to admit, he needed their help.
Fayt appeared to intently watch the fire once more, but, in truth, watched the remaining companions with the corner of one eye and both ears.

"Either you're stronger then you let on, or the short one has some interesting tricks up her sleeve," Aurochs explained, glancing around at the tables pointedly.
As the doors opened again, Aurochs lifted his head, and ran a wide, thick hand through his beard. "Have a nice chat? You didn't kill her did you? I don't see any blood on your clothes, but neither do I see the halfling," Asked the big man, peering to Fayt.

Adeline simply smiled, but did not say anything to the human. She turned as well when Fayt came back in, and her silver eyes lost their look of a slight glaze. "She's not dead, that much I can tell you. She can fend for herself."

"I'd be more concerned for my safety than her's. She left before I did, so if you don't know where she went, then she doesn't lie about her skills." Fayt shrugged casually, pointedly comfortable with the disappearing halfling.
"She'll be back before we depart. She has something she wants from this and I very much doubt she'd give it up so easily." He sighed, weariness catching up to him. This would be his first night inside for a long time.
"I would tell you both to be wary of her, but I doubt either of you are any less, if not more than what you appear." He leaned forward in his chair, holding his right arm with his left hand and flexing his right hand in and out, as if stretching a sore muscle.

"Oh, don't worry - I have a pretty good idea of what you might have talked about." That freaky grin appeared back on her face before making her comments general to both men. "Well, she had mentioned that she would possibly take that open room the keeper spoke of. If you will please excuse my rudeness, I do not wish to be a lone woman in a darkened room with two men by myself for a night. So, do excuse me. I will find elsewhere to abide for the night; I am sure that Miss Perin would not appreciate my company in her room." With that, she curtsied and left the inn, walking into the darkness and rain.

Fayt watched her leave, waiting until the door closed once more to turn back to the fire, speaking to open air. "I'm beginning to think it isn't that women are crazy, but that I'm the one who's crazy for thinking I'd understand them.."
He turned back to the quiet Aurochs, flashing a joking grin. "Looks like it's you and me for the night." He leaned back in the chair, stretching out his legs, folding his arms, gathering himself in a comfortable position. He spoke through the long hair that covered a generous portion of his face. "After all that trouble they went through to clear the room and start the fire... Just like women.."

"Yes, well I never said I would take the room I only said I might. But I suppose I wont ruin your little boys night in." Perin said as she detached herself from the shadows. "Toodle ooo." She waved her fingers at them and mounted the stairs. "Tell That bumbling Idiot that I will be taking the extra room. And I've seen what kind of shape it is in so I will not be paying."

"Not much worries there," Fayt called up the stairs after the fleeting shadow. "I've already paid what dues we owe this night. Sleep well, and be up with the dawn and ready to move."

Adeline stepped away from the outside of the door at that last comment, smiling gently; she had a very nice smile, actually... when it wasn't a "I know something you don't know" grin. It seemed like these people were good enough. They would get the job done; with her help, of course. She looked up and let the rain pour down upon her dark-skinned face freely for a moment. Sighing in satisfaction, she began to walk away from the building. She would see them in the morning.

Aurochs sat down against the wall, beside his maul, and stretched, yawning deeply. "Sunrise," he affirmed with a nod, and folded his solid arms over eachother, closing his eyes to fall asleep.

Fayt settled into the chair for the night, letting the fire lull him to sleep like so many nights spent camping during his travels.
============================================================================
Dreams of his past berated his dreams, troubling his sleep. A past he'd spent many years running away from, rejecting and denying. A past that had caught up to him, despite all his efforts.
============================================================================
His eyes opened to the searing sunlight that streamed into the tavern. The air was blurry, dense and fogged. Fayt rubbed at his sleepy eyes. Suddenly, they felt like they were burning. So did his throat.. Why was it getting harder to breathe?
His eyes shot open as his mind finally awoke and recognized what was going on. The Tavern was on Fire!!
"FIRE!! The tavern's on fire, get up!" Fayt yelled the warning as he shot to his feet, instinctively retrieving his spear first thing. As he slung the harness on his back, he hunched low to stay under the billows of smoke that were streaming into the upper floor.
"Perrin!" The halfling had taken the small room up the stairs and it was filling with the deadly fumes. Cursing the luck, he began to push through the wreckage of the already crumbling establishment. This fire burned with abnormal fury. Why hadn't he noticed it sooner?
A large beam fell from the rafters, burning as it crashed into the floor between him and the stairs. He fell back from the heat, shielding his eyes reflexively.
What was going on?! He couldn't leave the building until he'd found everyone.

Adeline stood outside, watching the fire with her silver eyes. Her arms were hanging by her sides, and she looked absolutely calm.
Stupid idiots. Who and why?
She was not inclined to go inside. If these humans and one halfling were as wonderful as they thought they were, they could get out by themselves. She could wait for another party to do the work for her if they did not work out.

The crack and fall of the beam woke Aurochs immediatly. He grabbed his maul and slung it over his back as he rose, moving toward Fayt. "What's Happening?!" he asked as he saw the man eying the stairs. The bearded lummox peered up, recalling that they had mentioned they were using the upper rooms.
The flames were spreading to the rest of the beam quickly. He pushed Fayt lightly with a hand the size of the younger one's head, and moved toward the end of the beam that was not charred and immolated in fire. He bent down, gripping the bottom of it with his big arms, and, with a clenched jaw and closed eyes, lifted with his knees, the great big support beam. He gave Fayt an urgent look.

Fayt jumped to the moment the big man was moving. They didn't need words to know they had to move the beam.
Fayt took the side closer to the fire from the big man. He was not nearly as large, so he'd be more help on the inside. Taking a strong grip, he mimicked the large Gerauldite and heaved with all his might. When the beam moved up enough, the young spearman bent under the beam and began to use his back for leverage to lift the beam and try to roll it safely to one side.

He ducked as well, but not to get under it. Groaning and digging his fingers into the fibers of the wood, he growled, then all at once shifted his weight, straightened his back, and pushed as he let out a loud roar-like bellow, throwing all his energy into shoving the beam behind him, rolling it as it went so it would avoid crushing Fayt if he did not get it far enough. Perhaps not witty, sly, or quick, but the man sure was big.
