Fletcher Macario
Age: 29
Description: Of average height and build, Fletcher is somewhat of an oddity at first sight. His hair is long and usually pulled back in a ponytail. Through an odd genetic combination, his hair is sandy blond on top of his head, but eyebrows, goatee, and below are jet black. Blue eyes look distractedly out of a freckled face with a well-defined jaw. He always seems slightly out of focus.
Clothing: Gray boots, very dark gray pants with many many pockets, each containing a bit of some rare element. Gray sleeveless shirt, gray leather bracers and fingerless gloves.
Height: 5'11''
Occupation: Planeswalker, quantum mage
Inventory: He travels light, but is never far from his cat, Erwin. Of course, "far" all depends on where one is observing Erwin at the time.
Special abilities:
Quantum Magic: Through the use of a very specialized kind of force magic, Fletcher is able to manipulate the world at the quantum level. He can adjust the makeup and position of atoms to obtain some very interesting (and often dangerous) effects.
Examples:
-sharpening a blade to where the edge is one molecule thick
-walking through walls by sliding the wall's atoms neatly around his own
-changing elements from one to another, or forcing things to become radioactive
-changing densities: a pebble becomes the size of a large boulder, but is still the same weight and mass as it was
All this is limited in that manipulating things on such a small level takes a significant amount of time (compared to other schools of magic) to achieve a noticeable effect. Also, his effective range extends only a few feet beyond his armspan.
Planeswalking: With a bit of concentration and effort, he can shift himself to other planes of existence. This is handy in that it allows for fast travel (the flow of time is different in some planes). Significant amounts of time spent in another plane is very taxing, and can cause major fatigue, as other planes are mere shadows and reflections of the plane of Reality.
Schroedinger's Syndrome: Due to an excessive reliance on planeswalking in earlier years, along with his affinity for the oddness of quantum magic, Fletcher has developed what is known as Schroedinger's Syndrome. In basic terms, his perceptions influence his personal reality. If he doesn't know something is there, it doesn't exist to him. On the flip side, if he believes something exists, it exists to him and only him until he realizes it doesn't exist.
Examples:
-Someone throws a rock at the back of his head. He doesn't know the rock exists, so therefore it doesn't to him. The rock passes harmlessly through him.
-An illusionist has created a very convincing illusion of a brick wall. Fletcher is convinced that there is a brick wall in his way, so that wall is real to him. He must climb over or go around.
Weapons: An knife that's been reinforced at the atomic level to be unbreakable. Also, it's very, VERY sharp.
Bio: Fletcher is a member of the prominent Macario mage family. He was born into and grew up around magic of all sorts, though none ever seemed to grab his interest. As a young boy, he would always frustrate his teachers by asking why their spells worked the way they did. He always wanted to know exactly how everything worked, right down to the smallest detail. This desire for specificity meant he shunned the "it just works, that's why" approach of other schools of magic, becoming the first true quantum mage in six generations. His magic, while much slower and far more difficult than other schools, is quite a lot more permanent, and can affect the base nature of things.
Eventually his studies led him to discover planeswalking. Unfortunately, beginning to learn to walk alternate realities is very dangerous without an experienced guide. A number of botched shifts permanently fractured his personal reality, leaving his essence permanently tainted by the dangerous and nebulous planes of If. This developed into full-blown Schroedinger's Syndrome, which will eventually kill him as his personal reality becomes more and more cracked with each planeshift.
He has a cat, Erwin, which follows him everywhere. Erwin has the peculiar ability to be in several places at once. This bothers him not one bit, for if anything tried to catch, kill, hit, harm, or trap him, he'd always just be...somewhere else.
Personality: A perfectionist with an eye for detail. In general, he's pleasant, but if interrupted or confronted by glaring imperfection, he can become very acerbic. He's very protective of his personal bubble, and prolonged interaction with other people makes him uncomfortable (mostly because he's very absent-minded, and he knows that at any moment he could make a complete fool of himself or break something. His primary goal in any human interaction is to succeed in doing neither of the two.).
