LIMA (AFP) - Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday. Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.
Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a "strange odor," local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.
Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.
Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 100-foot-wide (30-meter-wide) and 20-foot-deep (six-meter-deep) crater, said local official Marco Limache.
"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.

It's likely radiation that's hurting them. After all, that woman who was struck by a meteorite in her own home (after having it bounce off twelve or so srfaces) died a few months later from the radiation, and that was just a pea-sized stone. Headaches and vomiting are what most Chemo patients experience after being induced with it. At least it isn't that nasty burning sensation....
I wouldn't drink that water.

I don't think it's the water...I think it's the air. Ida know, just makes sense to me that maybe the air around the area is infected with something.
Well...That would not be a good day in any case.

Most likely radiation. Uranium's not all that uncommon in meteorites. And that's just one radioactive metal. While it could be some kind of illness, and that's be kinda cool not really because sweet! Life in space! but yeah.. death disease.

Whatever - it's probably aliens trying to kill us off before they invade. You all know I'm right. "So the aliens can't read our thoughts." "It's contaminated" ~Bo Hess
