Annie sighed and shook her head. She would not even try to make them understand. So she remained silent and squeezed Tion's hand.

Scheema nodded, padding along and listening. She didn't understand a single thing about all this technical junk about bridges, but when it came to mentioning war-things, her floppy green ears perked up. War means weapons, and explosions. Explosions were her forte...
Rubric the gnome had managed to wander off after seeing a meter on the side of the ship spinning. It was a shiny meter. He watched the guage for a while, theorizing what may be causing it to spin, or what exactly it measured, whether it was pressure or speed or fluid or capacity... When he was sure that everyone had moved ahead, he made an attempt to sneak back and take a closer examination of some of the rooms, wrench in hand...
Magus stormed into the room with his device, scowling at it. Wonderful, just wonderful. Can't he ever have a project of some grand-level scheme that doesn't endanger the world? This was JUST like last time... wretched kids coming and interrupting him.. and now some extra-dimensional traveller coming to blow up all his hard work. Not if he had anything to say for it... "Certainly an interesting mess isn't it?" he asked Shivelle off-handedly, peering from his masterpiece to his greatest achievement ever (if she didn't follow him, then he moves to her location and strikes up a conversation.)

((She followed. She would not be able to do anything else))
Shivelle nodded, gazing up at the gate. She moved to her vampiric husband and took his hand. "It's the best creation I have yet to see... well... must grand anyway. The Pale'nea was quite an achievement." She smiled up at him and nudged him playfully, trying to get him to stop looking so unhappy. "Don't worry. I don't think anything will come of it. It will work." She stopped talking for a moment, lost in thought. Then she asked, "Were you really going to go in there all alone? You did not want to let me come with you?" She then grinned, her pointed fangs glinting in the torchlight. "Cuz you know I would've come anyway."

"What of Reid..?" Magus asked, peering to her closely. "I cannot guaruntee our safety, after all this is the gate's first run... If I should be trapped, killed, or otherwise.. waylaid, I would not want you or him to suffer for it, should my experiment fail. No need for all of us to get killed... I wanted to go alone just for this reason, but it looks like others will be latching on to me like leeches anyway..."

Shivelle smiled sadly. "Well, you made room for an adventure. Many of them are adventurers. You cannot get angry at them for that." She then sighed. "I was going to have Annie watch Reid. She was with him and the twins just now, but that seems to have been postponed. Chyenne should be watching them now... and you know how well she does with children. I know she does not take too well to vampires, but she trusts Reid for the most part. He's still a child, after all."

"Yes, but it will be dangerous. Still there are strong people in this town, there will be those who can look after him in our absence. IF this device works right, we may not even be gone for a second.. or we could be gone for years. Dealings with time are an unpredictable field," Magus gently pulled her closer to him, stroking her hair to keep his hands busy. "If there are gods in this world or whatever world is beyond that gate, I hope that they'll be kind."

Shivelle smiled at his touch and closed her eyes. "That feels so nice... you've been so busy that I thought I'd never feel your hands through my hair again. I've missed you." She winked at him, her red eyes glittering. "But anyway, I have no doubt that this will work. I have faith in you, if not in whatever gods are supposed to be out there."

Anton was taken slightly aback at Tion's preposterous question. "It's not an actual bridge, that's just the name of it. And magic...?" he trailed off questioningly glancing at Kimmy with a look usually reserved for those in straitjackets. "No. The ship was constructed at a molecular level by nano-machines, thus the seamless walls and floors. The ship's frame is essentially one piece, save for the access hatches and modules that can be removed for repair. And the hull is injected with them so if the ship takes damage they can reshape the hull to repair it, to a point. eventually we'd have to take on some heavy metals at a planet but other than that the ship is pretty much self-repairing."
He felt an nearly imperceptible jolt through the floor of the lift.
"And we're here." The doors opened, showing the bridge. It wasn't too much to look at by itself but the main attraction was the holotank filling the center of the room. A fully 3d projection of the ship and surrounding space with zoom cubes detailing specific bits and pieces of the solar system.
Several stations were located around the bridge, each one spotless and clean as if it had never been sat in, which was the case. The general feel was of an amphitheater. There was no command chair. Starship commanders thought on their feet.
"From here I can control the entire ship. Of course, through SIAM I can do the same from any location on the vessel, but I prefer to stay here. Feels more like home than anything else has."
* * * SIAM noticed when one of the members peeled away formteh tour group but decided not to bother Anton about it. It alerted a pair of security drones that were nearby but didn't bring them into contact with the gnome. Instead it activated its voice interface. "Hello. I notice you have taken an interest in some of the starship's components. Can I help you?"

Tion nodded his head every once and awhile as he listened to Anton explain things. Aside from the strange words he was usuing most of it started to make a little sence to him.
Kimmy however didn't understand a word that came out of his mouth. He was practically speaking another language. She just smiled at him until he was done. "..Right. Magic. I can do magic too. But I'm still not very good at it. all I can really do is put water into boots."
When they had reached the command center Tio looked a round with great interest. "So you can man this whole thing by yourself? You dont need any workers or crew? That is truely an amazing feat." Kimmy headed straight for the center object. It just looked so cool. She wanted to touch it.

Annie had gasped when they entered. "Finally, something far more advanced than what we had..." She walked in and reached up to one of the holograms' planets, which flickered when she put her hand through it. "I'm impressed. I remember seeing these types of things on television on the sci-fi channel, but I never thought they would be able to make holograms so huge and advanced."

"Lifeless metal and machine... how.. boring.." Ace had been following along, a very distant expression on his face for a while now.
"This.. 'thing's name is Pheonix, is that right..? If that's the case, then where is the fire?" Bolts, images and shiny metals might catch the fancy of most, but Ace cared less for technology than he did for Magic.

"I wouldn't call Phoenix lifeless. SIAM is quite aware, he's the AI of the ship, in many real ways he IS the ship. And the.. fire? I suppose I could take you to the engine room next.. it's not actaulyl fire.. but plasma's close enough for government work."
Anton Smiled at Kimmy but didn't respond to her claims of magic. Instead he went to Annie. "I wasn't aware they had Nano-machined vessels in your age." He chuckled. "But this is one of my favorite things on teh ship.. aside form looking straight out into space with no obstructions.. not even glass."
He looked back at Tion. "SIAM enables me to pilot this vessel by myself, yes. There are a few hundred sub-sentient androids aboard who can take care of menial labor and unwelcome visitors, but other than that I am alone."
He clapped his hands together. "So, any further questions or would you like to continue the tour?"

"Yea, I got one..." The expression on Ace's face was a mixture of amusement and sympathy. "You don't get to talk to people much, do you..?"

Kimmy amused herself by continuously walking though the holograms. It was wonderous how they were there but she could walk right through them. Like an illusion spell. Quite interesting. "I have one too!" She whipped around to look at Anton when he asked for any further questions. "Can we go outside?"

"...No. I don't. I've been alone on this ship with SIAM for over a year now. Yours are the first human faces I've seen in a long time. Mostly human," he amended, nodding towards the goblin.
Turning toward Kimmy, he chuckled a little. "Sure, if you really want. Wouldn't be the brightest idea but I've got some environment suits about your size. It's tough to breathe out there."
