It seemed that the scientists were still working on mechanical enhancement for human extremeties.. Particularly arms and eyes.
Last time he had heard they were working on DNA transfers and stem cell research.
Nodding, number 10642 sat up on his bunk.
"I agree.. he seemed more angry. When you were brought in here you were a wreck of tears... I wonder what made him so mad and not scared.
Though he had little time to wonder.
"Icarus, report to Lab C 16," a voice over the intercom said.
The boy looked confused. it had been a while since he was called to a lab. None the less, he rose out of his seat and toward the door. The heavy metal door lock's automated button turned from red to green, and he was able to pass through.
Walking down a hallway, he moved past a lab filled with tanks and cages, places where animal DNA research was being investigated.
Another room held cradles, where children who have been induced with mutations are growing.
He didn't bother looking through those rooms, instead heading straight to the the lab he knew as C 16.
A woman with straight red hair, neatly cut at her jawline welcomed him. She had lines around her eyes from leering all the time. This was Doctor Fiona.
"Hello Icarus, have a nice time with your friends? I haven't spoken with you in some time," she said sweetly, as if they had been lifelong friends.
"Why am I here? I thought you were done with me," replied the boy, confusion in his voice.
"We are, that's why I've called you here. Please lay down on the table." This was an order, not a request, but he felt insubordinate. What did she mean 'we are'?
"You're.. you're going to put me to sleep aren't you?!" he accused, pointing a hefty metallic finger at her.
"Lay down on the table Icarus." she repeated in the same tone.
"No! You can't de-activate me! I won't let you!'' he shouted, backing toward the door. Fiona calmly moved toward her desk, pressing a button along the surface. The sliding door to her office slammed shut, loud ''shunk'' noises meant that the auto locks were in place.
He was trapped now. Turning to the door, he tried to use his strong metal arm to break it down, punching it hard, making loud bangs, but not so much as a dent.
her! She had the key! If he could get through her then he could escape! maybe free the others!
Icarus turned just fast enough to see Fiona pull the trigger of the gun that was aimed at his neck. The body of the boy slammed to the floor.

(I wanted to intriduce another character, so i decided to nix Ic and add some tenseness as the cellmates who knew him realize he's never coming back.)
