So, on the whole domestic weapons debate, which side are you on?
Personally I think that it would be a wise decision to keep a gun. Of course, if there are childrens in the abode, it should be kept under lock and key, and make sure that the kids do not know about it for as long as possible.
Secondly, if you could, would you ever obtain a CCP? (concealed carry permit).
Opinions! Express them! It is your right!

I believe that we have the right to carry firearms to defend our families. I see nothing wrong with that. Though, I would inform my children about what firearms are capable of doing, though not tell them where it was.
As for the CCP, it's a tough choice. Dad has one, and he never leaves the house without it. The store, church, everywhere, he has it. To him, anything can happen at any point, and I understand his point. Yet, I don't believe that I deserve one, simply because I'm not a police officer. Just seems that giving that permit to a person gives them an oppurtunity to be a hero, and heroes get people killed. It's tough though, because certain circumstances I can understand. I'm 50/50 on that one.

I also believe that we should be able to own a firearm, but I don't think anything but handgun/rifle should be allowed. Of course, there are hunters who need buckshots and such, but I think it should be made sure that they are, in fact hunters. Like, you can't get a buckshot unless you're a hunter. My dad has a buckshot, but he only uses it to go shooting at the range. I think it's silly that he has it. I've seen the damage it does - not only to the target (which doesn't even resemble a target when it comes back) but to the shooter. He tried to get me to shoot that thing after I saw what it did to his shoulder, and I was like, "You trying to kill me?!" I have an idea where he keeps them, but they are never talked about, so we children usually forget about them. Actually, the Ostrich didn't even know he had them until she was twelve and we were talking about this very subject. They're hidden and kept on the down-low, especially around the young ones. When my entire family was gone for about 5 days except for Silent and I, it was a comfort to know that one of my daddy's handguns (I'm not going into detail about his firearms... that somehow seems like infringing on his privacy) was in our desk drawer, cocked and loaded. Being the eldest in a huge, empty house and being solely responsible for anything that happens to my siblings is a very large weight on the shoulders of anyone, and knowing that if something happened I had a gun at the ready made me feel a whole lot better.
The CCP, for me, is a good thing, but I think the process of getting one should be more thorough. I would obtain one, but I don't know if I would carry the gun EVERYWHERE. I didn't know my parents had one until literally three days ago when we were at the ATM in the middle of the night and a man in a very nasty car was staring at the Ostrich and me for the entire process. When we got back in the car, she and I were talking to Dad about it and he said that he had been keeping an eye on him, and if he'd had tried anything, he would've been in for a nasty surprise. The Ostrich was like, "what do you mean?" and he said, "Your daddy never leaves the house without something to keep him and his family safe." She seemed surprised when asking, "You have a gun?" to which he replied, "I don't have to answer that question," and kept driving. I, personally, was thankful for it. And I never knew he carried one until that night. It's not like he'd shoot anyone or even take out the gun without talking to him first. I know my dad. But if someone harmed his daughters, he'd at least *bloop* the gun and hold the man at gunpoint. I knew Mom got one a while ago, though. Dad bought her a really tiny handgun (which has a mean kick - I've shot at the range with it) for Christmas one year, because he wants her being able to defend herself. My mommy is tough in many respects, but not in the physcial 'I'll beat you up' sense of the word. It was dinky enough that she could hide it in one of the pockets of her purse. I've never seen it on her person before in my whole life, even when she has me go through her purse in the car, but who knows? My parents are amazing at hiding their weapons, and I am so glad that they have the right to have them. Mom especially. Yeah, I'd get one, especially after I have children.
I wish there were a way to make sure people could be as responsible with them as my parents, but there isn't, so it's a gamble. I want them to make getting a permit a bit harder than it is right now.

We should have firearms for protection.
CCP: should have one. It's good for people who have the potential to get mugged.

Honestly I hate the idea of firearms and any kind of weapon that is not a blade.
"America is the place where a poor man can become rich and a kitty can become a tough guy - so long as he's got a gun in his hand. So I just hope you're not a kitty with a gun in your hand."
"Oh no sir. I'm a tough guy, with a kitty in my hand."
Good movie. Shoot 'Em Up.
Anyways, I believe in knives, swords, axes and sharp objects. It makes the fight that much more honorable. Though I am profficient with most rifles, hand guns, bows, several kinds of explosives, grenade launcher(both attachments and actual handheld), knives in general, kodachi's, several kinds of axes including the barbarian style double-sided that only someone of my size should use, broadswords. Though my all-time favorite and weapon I am most profficient with is a two-handed katana, which can end up being a one-hand for me, simply because I love the art of combat.
What kind of art is there in being able to defeat your opponent in the blink of an eye and from thirty feet away? Guns are for large kitties.
Working on the throwing knives next...
So honestly, what this all leads up to, if I could wish guns away and leaves sharp objects only, I would. Though in the mean time we should only give guns to those whom we trust to protect us. A kamikaze move? Perhaps.

if guns weren't around then I would like that too; self defence would be a more than karate and it'd be a fair fight. However, the world is what it is, so I have to agree that people should be able to defend themselves, guns are sometimes the best thing one can have.
You know, I think it may be the whole American dream of not having to do anything physical. "Who wants to have to practice swinging something when you could just lift up something, pull another, and have the person dead?"

Ease of killng with lack of effort and investment was a main reason. That's why many nobles back in ye olden daes wouldst ban the use of crossbows among the peasantry, as they could easily kill the nobles as they paraded by on their high horses.

And that's why I don't like the society we live in today. Though as technology improves to better mankind it also improves to enhance population control.
To go back to what was said in regards to people should have a means of defending themselves, I disagree there whole-heartedly. Because the only difference between a person with a gun in mind for defense and a person with a gun in mind to attack or kill someone, is a miniscule difference in the mindset. The human mind is so fickle in the decisions it makes and without reason can quickly switch from being the hunted to becoming the hunter.
Give guns to those whom we trust to protect us, like the military, and if not them then we have no one left to trust because the police force has maybe a hand full of good men and they're never on duty. So civilians should not carry concealed weapons except for the military.

The most awesome part of this whole debate is that you two, even though you never get along online, seem to get along fine in real life. It's like...two superpowers meet and cancel each other out or some such.
Totally biased, but I'm gonna say it's about 50/50, rather than a handful. Everything is corrupt nowadays, even the flowers in the garden in front of my house are attracting aphids...dumb creatures.

But if you take away the right to bear arms for civilians, that won't remove the weapons from those who wish to purchase them illegally. Just because a handgun is outlawed doesn't make it hard to obtain. Those who wish to do harm using firearms will still be able to get guns, while the average law abiding citizen will be defenseless. I believe most guns used in crimes are illegally purchased anyway, or stolen. Australia put into effect what you are proposing, and look what happened. www.geoffmetcalf.com/aus.html
