Looks like Obama has chosen Biden to be his running mate...Meh, he's a nobody.
Anywho, on brighter news: McCain has chosen a vp, he is supposed to announce it within the weekend. On a fun little side note, Romney has suddenly canceled all his public appearances that were scheduled...Perhaps a hint there? *shrug*

I hope so. As much as I don't like McCain, he can get us out of the war, and if Romney is his VP, he can certainly get our economy back up. He's the one who got us out of the thousands-of-dollars debt that we were in for the 2002 Olympics, and we even made profit from it.

At the same time it's a bit of a twist that he chooses someone so "young" as his running mate, especially after arguing time and again against Obama's lack of experience.

It's quite the move, though. Zeph's point makes it a risky move, but it is still a brilliant tactic. Do you know how many Democratic women will be defecting to the Republican party just so that they can vote for a woman? They're very upset with Obama because he won the primaries. Now they can vote for Palin, and they WILL. The Dems will hate this. She may be "young," but at least she has actually voted for things and has a constant history. Obama never voted for anything when he was on councils. He always voted "present," which means he was there, but he wasn't gonna take a stand. He's been running for pres his entire political life. Palin's been in politics to actually make a change. I respect her.

I daresay, the GOP Convention was intense.
After both of the conventions, I am positive that McCain and Palin will be the best choices for President and Vice President that we could have this election. Obama and Biden don't cut it.
Even if you're not into politics, you really should read the speeches made in BOTH conventions. You'll see.

Palin was a lot younger than I thought she'd be.

Palin was a lot younger than I thought she'd be. *Laughs* It's to balance out McCain's soaring age.

Here's my prediction:
No matter who gets elected, neither candidate is going to survive his first year in office. McCain will die because he's old, and Obama will probably get shot by some crazy southern white supremacist.
So basically we're voting for which VP we want in office.

Yeah, pretty much. And Palin seems to have more of her act together to me...

As compared to Biden? Why's that?
He's been a senator since 1973, he's an attorney, and he practically authored the Violence Against Women Act.
As for Palin...she was on a couple city councils and was governor for a few years.
TBH, I think Biden's got more experience and credentials than Palin does.

True. He may have experience on her, but she's got some serious guts. All the oil company corruption in her home state where she dealt with it makes me think that she might have some potential. And the fact that people need to hack into her email accounts to try and find a fault with her has to mean something.

Pshhh. Both VP candidates were picked to give the presidential campaigns something they lacked.
McCain picked Palin because she has a marketable face, and he knew the media would finally start to give him some coverage that way.
Obama picked Biden to add the political experience he was missing.

Isn't that what everyone does when they pick a VP? And it's not just her face. She was chosen because, as Raiku says, she's had experience in changing economic standing and shoving bad guys out of her way. The only thing she really hasn't had political experience with is foreign policy, and McCain has it.

Okay, so it's obvious who I'm voting for in THIS election. Let it be known that I am neither a staunch republican nor a staunch democrat. However, this is an email that I got that is a great example of one of the biggest differences here in the parties.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government prog rams, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and an occasional chat with various professors, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?' She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes the next day because she's too hung over.'
Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That's a crazy idea. That would not be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, 'Welcome to the Republican party.'
If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between a Republican and Democrat, I'm all ears.
