The city of Dustwind Gully was a happy bustling village, whether you're a lawyer, or a cowpoke, everyone seems to be moving around gettin' to their daily routine. The wooden buildings reached two stories, and sometimes even a whopping three. A few saloons graced the eastern alleyways, and a good healthy church thrived in the little populated town.
The grasses and meadows of Dustwind Gully made one wonder why they named it that in the first place. There were roving green plains all around, with sagebrush poking out every now and then. In the autumn time, the grasses all turned to beautiful shimmering fields of gold, and if it weren't the most beautiful sight that you ever seen. A good sized river ran through the town and then made a hairpin turn, so that the town completely surrounded the bend in the river.
Once a year they have an annual harvest festival, and there's dancin' and singin' and all sorts of fun to be had. The city's a safe place for raising anything from chickens to children, and the postman arrives every week to deliver mail.
Yes sir, Dustwind gully was a fine place to live, and a fine place for a story to begin.

Kris welcomed the soft, warm glowing evening sun with a hearty smile as he rode atop his horse into the gully. It had been some time since he came across a community as exciting as this, always delivering letters and whatnot. He tipped his hat to a little girl as he leaped off his horse and began tying it's riegns to the pole near the pub. "How do ye do ma'am?" he said, kneeling to her eye level. "I reckon I got a present for ye..." He reached into his vest, revealing a bright yellow flower. "Ah, here ya go miss." He retorted, handing her the flower. The little lady immedietly blushed, giggled, and ran off to her mother. The mother embraced her daughter, though a little confuzed by the stranger who just gave her daughter a gift...albiet, a pretty smellin' gift. Kris rose from his knees and glanced at her mother, about 20 meters away. Tipping his hat, he walked into the bar, prepared for almost anything.

An old, but well muscled man stood behind the bar polishing a mug as all barkeepers tend to do. His grand-daughter, Brittany, was walking around serving drinks and flirting with the customers. The old man looked up at a shriek and a slap and saw that someone had become overly friendly with one of the wenches and put down the mug.
"Time to go I think Bubba."
"Mayba I dun wanna go Gampa." Bubba replied standing up. Gampa grabbed his flubbery arm and hauled him toward the door and tossed him out.
"Don't be commin' back 'round here til ya learn some manners Bubba."

Kitty straightened her newly-rumpled dress with a look of absolute disgust on her face. "Thank you, Gampa. That heathen needs a whippin'. Don't you let him be gettin' near me again, Sheriff." She threw a flirtatious look in the sherriff's direction. He was a regular guest to the bar... when he was off duty, of course.

The doors of the pub flung open as Kris walked in. He did'nt mean to push them so hard, but he thought the hinges would have been stronger. Walking towards the bar, he tried to avoid eye contact with any of the regulars. Where Kris had been, it had often been customary to attack the new guy for looking at you. He took a seat at the stool farthest away from the scary man with the big arms... Turning his attention to the woman behind the counter he said in a timid tone, "Ma'am, may I acquire some o' that there alchohal?" He asked pointing to the wall.

Kitty watched the man come in with a little bit of interest... he looked ruddy. Hmm... maybe he'd be fun to flirt with. Kitty quickly ran to the counter and went behind it. As she walked past Brittany she whispered swiftly in her ear. "I call this one, Brit." She made her way into the kitchen to get some more tankards.

Brittany smirked as Kitty walked past. "Always liked them new ones." Straightening she sidled over to where Kris was seated. "So what's yer name stranger? And what drink do ya prefere?"

Kris, slightly startled, flinched as Brittany siddled his way. "Why don't ya just gimme' the strongest ya got?" Being a worker for the Pony Express, he had traveled quite a lot for his age, and had tasted many intense brews. Perhaps this one was up to the test. Kris had heard Kitty "call him" he chuckled a bit. Women always fascinated him, but he never really had the experience one his age usually would have. He often found himself at a loss of words around them, but practice makes better.

Xavier sighed with contentment, adjusting the glasses on his face. He sat upon a stump, right next to the former tree's still living twin. There was a bird on one of the upper branches, creating a nest. Sketchbook in hand, the doctor began to draw the tree and the nest from a few angles, nodding at his work afterwards. Animals sure were strange... Why can't people be as inventive and intuitive as animals? He sighed and shook his head, running a hand through his hair to tuck some behind his ear. Looking at his pocketwatch, he saw that it was getting late in the afternoon, evening was almost starting. Putting on his brown jacket over his white collared shirt, the doctor headed down to the town again to check up on a few patients. Never should have allowed himself to make housecalls...

Kitty returned to the main lobby. The aroma had never been to her liking... sweaty, dusty men and strong ale. Sometimes an weak-stomached man would be sick, and that certainly ruined her day whenever it happened. Kitty had decided something after growing up around this place... all men were disgusting. They were drunken, foul-mouthed, uncaring and groping animals that were only fun to play with until they got too friendly. She had never met an actual kind man in her life... so how was she to know any better? Well, that was not exactly true. She knew Gampa to be a great person... but he didn't count. He was different. Kitty sighed and put on her "wench face" (as she called it) and walked out with full tankards in her hands. She did her job well... and sometimes she admitted that it was fun to tease the men endlessly. Overall, however, she loathed the job.

Kris never had time for women. He was rather busy, always delivering messages round' the state and whatnot. He often thought about getting married someday. Shaking his head he tossed the daydreams aside. Marriage was not in his plan. Or any kind of relationship for that matter. Too many times had he found himself being torn apart by both work, and women. The last time that happened, he swore to never fall for another women for as long as he lives. But as Kitty walked in and he saw her smile, he thought about his options. Diverting his eyes away from her to avoid eye contact he put his head face down on the table, exhaling deeply. I'm just gonna get my drink, and leave. That's it! Nothing else!

Kitty noted the shy look in the newcomer's eye. That was her job, after all. The wench made her way to the man, walking with an exaggerated sway of her hips as she weaved through the tables. A few men made grabs toward her, but she dodged. She set the tankards down at their assigned tables, then continued toward the man.

A very tired looking young man arrived into the tavern, his fine-looking jacket slightly slacked, and his neck-tie (not a tie or bow, more like a brown string tied into a pretty bow around his neck) slightly off to one side. Overall, he looked like a professional who had been very productive today. He made an effort to straighten himself up, and readjust his glasses after pushing through the door. "Evening," he said politely to some of the patrons, moving to Kitty. "Hello miss Katherine, Brittany. Is 'Gampa' around?" he asked with ettiquette, giving them both a friendly (but nothing more) nod, amused by the man's silly nickname.

Kitty, stopping her advance to speak to the newcomer, giggled annoyingly and flirtatiously... for she knew it annoyed him. "Yes. He's over there, behind the counter."

Brittany laughed at Kitty's abviou enjoyment of tormenting the doctor. "Careful Kitty annoy him to much and he might not come around when ya need."
Gampa looked up at his name and smiled kindly at Xavier. "What can I do fer ya Docter?"
