The sheets of the bed felt awkward to Kris. He was not used to sleeping anywhere other than his own bed and this luxurious cruise ship and it's over-comfortable style made him feel even stranger, and it was'nt the sea sickness (this time). He threw off the blanket and sat up on the bed, stratching his head. Nothing about these place made him comfortable, the only reason he even agreed to go on this cruise was because his friends convinced him... He did'nt have to, right now he could be sound asleep in his bedroom. He exhaled heavily as he walked over to the walk-in closet and pulled out a black t-shirt. Quickly he put it on as he opened the door to the balcony outside. The stars shone brightly this night...an irregular feeling for someone who had lived in the city most of his life. Exhaling a second time, he gazed out towards the moon. Another door opened to Kris's side. But he did'nt need to look, automatically assuming it was one of his friends. "Can't sleep either?" He muttered, still staring into the moon.

Garret nodded in reply, shivering. "It's really cold out.. and the heater in my room seems broken..." replied the boy, joining his friend by the railing. He shivered as his hands grasped the icy railing. "Can you believe this? I've never been on a cruise before... Probably never will either huh?" he exclaimed, elbowing Kris with a smirk.

Kris chuckled. "Yeah...it's a bit chilly." He said sarcastically. He breathed and watched his breath travel across the deck. Smiling he asked, "Do you think the others are sleeping, or are they nocturnal like us?" It was true, Kris rarely slept through the night. Either by nightmares, or uncomfortable sheets.

Jean was out on the deck in a secluded area, sitting on a bench. She was gazing up at the stars... staring into their depths as if they held the answers to her heart's deepest questions. Alas, they did not answer. They never did. The girl pulled her jacket a little tighter about her shouders and continued to breathe slowly, her breath escaping in steamy wisps. She turned her gaze to the moon. What an amazing sphere... and such beauty. It was said that the moon knew all the answers, as well as the stars. Jean had proven that wrong many times. Nobody could answer her questions. Jean stood up and walked into the chill breeze. She leaned over the siderails, looking into the black water below. It was quiet... except for the engine of the cruise ship. She loved it. Dreamily she wondered if anyone else was up and about... but she did not wish to get her hopes up. The water twinkled with the reflection of the stars... it was as if Jean was caught in the middle of two colliding galaxies. Sometimes she wished she could be in that state of oblivion.

( how abstract and poetic) "So Kris, how did you manage to score these tickets anyway? And how come I've hardly seen anyone else aboard the ship?" asked Garret, shoving himself away from the railing to peer into the affectionatly crafted "porthole"-style window, only to see, as he expected, another empty room.
Garret wore his typical ripped jeans and a blue flannel jacket over a dingey (sp? din-jee) gray tank-top. A red stained rag hung out of his back pocket.

"Some guy gave them to me. Said he wanted to get rid of them." Kris gave himself a hug, to provide warmth (although he also thought himself attractive, but that was not a factor this time). "I put some research into the boat, got some pretty good reviews." Shaking his head at the moon, "I'm still suprised I got all of you doorknobs to come with me." Kris turned for the first time away from the moon and glanced over to Garret. "I say we go find the others, no way they can sleep either Le'mme(sp?) go throw on a jacket...and some pants."

"What makes you think they won't sleep?" asked garret, though right now he'd be fine with going anywhere. He stayed out by the railing, and pulled out a carton of cigarettes from his inner jacket pocket, a lighter in the other hand. Lighting up and taking a drag, he blew the smoke out to the wind, watching calmly as the dark clouds sailed by. "Then again, what harm is there in waking them up?" he muttered with a grin.

Jean sighed at nothing in particular... the black abyss below and above her did not answer her questions any more than they had before, so why bother dreaming that they would. She looked up again... and then coughed. She continued her stare out into nothing... then she coughed dreadfully. Oh, heaven... someone was smoking. The nicotine wafted to where she was standing, coming into her throat and grasping it with cold, unfeeling fingers of death. She could feel it choking her... curse all smokers! Of course she could not really blame whoever it was... they probably came out to smoke because they thought nobody was there. Still, that did not change her allergic reaction. Jean grasped her throat as her coughing continued and tried to find a place where she could get away from the floating nicotine.

Garret frowned for a moment, he heard someone coughing... Peering over the rail, he saw a female figure coughing dreadfully, holding her throat and running around a corner. "She doesn't sound very healthy..." mumbled Garret, not able to distinguish the fact that it was Jean due to the dark of the night and a slight fog. Taking a final drag, he took the cigarette from his lips and flicked it off into the sea. "You ready yet?" he asked Kris, wanting to head out as soon as possible.

"Yup, let's go." Kris sputtered as he walked back outside. He started walking towards the stairs that led to the lower level, when he smelled something familiar. "Smoking again, eh?"

"No," he lied, shoving his hands in his pockets. "What's it to you anyway?" Garret asked, defensivly.
He moved ahead of Kris, headed toward the deck. "Let's get going,..."

Kris smirked. Despite the fact that he cared greatly for his best friend, he could not deny how hard-headed he was. He tried several times before, and had givin up by now. Walking behind Garret, (not necessarily trying to keep up, just a steady pace) he stared at the reflection of the moon in the water. Nature...sure is beautiful. Suddenly remembering that he was walking, he barely managed avoiding a wall. He shook it off, and walked down the stairs, hoping Jean would not smell Garret's recent mistake. If there was one other person in the world Kris cared for as much as Garret, it had to be Jean. He had known them both for quite a long time...really, the only true friends he had ever known. He had always wanted to thank them...but thought it was quite a stupid thought. Shaking of his feelings-again- he optimistically thought Jean and the others would be awake.
(pshh...what others...)

((True...)) Jean found a bench and collapsed on it, trying to get her breathing under control. For heaven sakes... someone was trying to kill her. She knew that was not true... but it sure felt like it. Finally, her breath coming naturally again, she leaned back on the bench and massaged her throat.

*Garret waited, though it didnt sound like she was awake.. or in.* "Maybe we shouldn't.. let's head to the upper decks.. " he did like Jean... band began thinking about how he would explain waking her up in the middle of the night for no reason...
